COVID-19 Wedding in Washington D.C.

Terry + Elizabeth || Covid Wedding || Washington D.C.

We met online in an MMORPG, and after endless hours of grouping to explore, quest, level, and collect gear we certainly got to know each other! The game-related chat turned to real-world conversations and real-life meetups. We faced endless challenges in-game, and then real life turned into something more surreal than any video game when the pandemic hit.

We decided to make our love official and as soon as COVID-19 restrictions were relaxed enough to allow us to get married, we had a wonderful, if slightly unconventional, ceremony. We're now officially a group of two! Guildmates for life!

We're spending a lot of time together in our virtual world again, and we're eager to share our joy with all of our online friends too. As top-ranked players, we've got friends (and adversaries) from all over the world and we love how the game has brought the world together.

It may be a long time before we're able to have a proper honeymoon, but escapism through our Steam collections is certainly possible. We're exploring new worlds together online, and are looking forward to doing it for real one day too.

We wish our guildmates could have been with us on our special day. As passionate players, we've been to many cons and player meet-ups, and when the world goes back to normal we're sure to attend many more, so we can have a second celebration with all of our online friends then. We know that even if people move on to another game, many of them will remain with our friends for a long time to come. We'll see them in other universes, and while the avatars may look different, and the setting could be future, past, sci-fi, or fantasy, the people behind them will still be the people that we have come to love.
